Hertfordshire Schools LTA

The aim of Herts Schools Tennis is to encourage tennis in schools by offering a range of competitive opportunities for players of all ages and abilities.  Our competitions are doubles and round robin and are structured by age and experience so that everyone enjoys them.

We run competitions for primary school players in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. For secondary schools we run a programme that wraps around the LTA Youth Schools Structure. So we offer a Year 7 competition, leagues for less experienced players in Years 8, 9 and 10 and a County Schools Championship for experienced U14 and U18 players.   These Leagues are normally run by area organisers who will be contacting the schools that usually enter but any school can join!  If you are interested but are not sure who to contact please get in touch with me.

Nicola Mabbitt Trophy Yrs 8,9 & 10, Finals, 26th June 2024, Queenswood School

This is a competition designed for inexperienced players – those who only play tennis at school. Players who play at a tennis club and compete regularly should play in the LTA Youth Tennis Schools (formerly Team Tennis Schools) competitions. Our event is named in honour of the late Nicola Mabbitt from Queenswood School who supported Herts Schools Tennis.

There are 6 separate Leagues: Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10, Boys and Girls with schools divided into local areas. Schools arrange their own matches and only those matches played before the deadline count. The winners of the local Leagues are then invited to play the winners of the other Leagues in a Finals event at Queenswood School. Teams consist of 4 players, (2 doubles pairs) with each pair playing both pairs from the opposing team. Matches are one short set – first to reach 6 games. If the match is tied at 2 sets each then the team that has won the most games is the winner. If games are equal, then the match is drawn.
