Herts 35 Men’s Inter County Championships, Devonshire Park, Eastbourne, 4 – 6 August 2017

News

Hertfordshire began the weekend hoping to capitalise on their Group 1 position by winning the championship.

On day 1 they met North of Scotland who were last year’s winners. Unfortunately the day resulted in 1-2 loss which put the damper on proceedings.

Dorset were Herts’ opponents on Day 2, the first singles match saw some great tennis but sadly resulted in a tie-break defeat. Unfortunately Herts lost the Doubles too but managed to get a convincing win in the second singles to finish the day on a more positive note.

Day 3’s fixture was against West of Scotland who were also looking at relegation.  The Doubles saw Herts lose on a tie break but they achieved a good win in the no. 1 Singles.  Due to injury,  West of Scotland were unable to field a player for the no. 2 Singles match so that gave Herts a 3rd place finish overall.

The players in the team were:-  Simon Bramwell, Hamid Hejazi, Johan Prins, Venki Sundaram and James Thomas

Having captained the team for the last 8 years, Simon Bramwell is handing over the reins to Hamid Hejazi.  Herts Tennis would like to thank Simon for all his hard work and we wish him well. We would also like to wish Hamid all the best in his new role.
