What a week for Herts player Ollie Tarvet!
Ollie came through Wimbledon qualifying to reach the Gentleman’s singles main draw and play in his first grand slam. He faced Leandro Riedi on court 4 in round one where he defeated the Swiss player in straight sets setting himself up for a second round match against the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz on Centre Court this afternoon.
Ollie started playing tennis in St Albans and trained initially at Batchwood Tennis Centre where he joined the prestigious Pathway to Tarbes programme which is supported by Herts Tennis. He is currently studying at US college in San Diego, an opportunity often followed by our top county players.
With much excitement about Ollie’s fantastic achievements the story has been picked up by local station BBC 3 Counties radio and Craig Blythe, Sports Manager at Batchwood and Mark George from Herts Tennis were interviewed on the Andy Collins breakfast show (around an hour and a half in), the recording of this is currently available for the next 29 days on BBC Sounds on the link below. You must have a TV Licence to access the BBC Sounds app https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002dy79?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile
Everyone in the Herts Tennis family is thrilled for Ollie in what he has achieved at Wimbledon. He has been part of Herts Tennis since he was 6 years old and a popular and committed team member in junior and senior county teams. Huge congratulations to Ollie for what he has achieved so far; we look forward to watching his career go from strength to strength and to Ollie inspiring the next generation of young players.
Whatever the outcome of the match with Carlos Alcaraz everyone at Herts Tennis is so very proud of Ollie and his achievements.
