History in the Making: Hertfordshire Ladies Secure Record-Breaking 7th Consecutive County Cup Title at Eastbourne

The powerhouse Hertfordshire Ladies tennis team has etched their names permanently into the history books, capturing an unprecedented seventh consecutive LTA Summer County Cup title at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne.

The prestigious tournament, which dates back to 1895 and stands as one of the oldest domestic tennis competitions globally, witnessed a masterclass in teamwork, dominance, and mental fortitude as the Herts squad stood unmatched in the elite Group 1 division.

The team entered the tournament as the six-time defending champions, arriving on the pristine grass courts of the International Tennis Centre with a target on their backs. However, captain Amanda Elliott and her team translated that pressure into a relentless, high-powered campaign.

Throughout the week-long event, the Herts squad methodically dismantled the strongest teams in the country:

  • Day 1 : Opened with an emphatic 7-2 victory over rivals Surrey.
  • Day 2 : Kept the momentum rolling by sweeping past Cheshire 7-2.
  • Days 3 & 4 : Dominated Nottinghamshire with an 8-1 defeat and cruised to another 7-2 win against Northumberland, setting up a thrilling finale.

The championship week culminated in a highly anticipated, winner-takes-all Friday clash against a formidable Middlesex team. Hertfordshire took an early 2-1 lead in the opening round and steadily pressed their advantage to a commanding 4-2 lead after the second round of doubles matches.

The historic moment was sealed in the final round by the formidable pairing of Erin Pearce and Marelie Raath. They delivered a clinical 6-1, 6-3 victory over Middlesex’s Anjali Kotecha and Tamara Kuti, securing an unassailable 5-2 lead on the day and history was made triggering ecstatic celebrations from the Hertfordshire camp.

Hertfordshire’s generational run relies on an incredible blend of experienced leadership and stellar depth. The historic 2026 championship squad include Amanda Elliott (c), Emily Arbuthnott, Sophia Christodoulou, Georgiana Mititelu, Erin Pearce, Marelie Raath, Hannah Read and Indianna Spink.

Having previously equalled a 1980s record held by Surrey to reach six straight titles last year, this seventh consecutive crown cements this current Hertfordshire era as arguably the greatest dynasty in the storied history of the LTA Summer County Cup .
