Hertfordshire’s Joanna Garland reaches the final of the Australian Open’s 1 Point Slam
What a week for Hertfordshire player Joanna Garland who played the Australian Open’s 1 Point Slam competition this week. The competition features both professional and amateur players facing each other in a one-point, winner-takes-all format for an AUD $1million prize.
Among the players were well know grand slam competitors including Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Nick Kyrgios, Amanda Anisimova, Elena Rybakina and Alexander Zverev.
Joanna who is World No. 117 beat Alexander Zverev, Nick Kyrgios, Maria Sakkari and Donna Vekic before the final showdown against Australian amateur Jordan Smith who she was beaten by.
Joanna hails from Stevenage and plays for Chinese Taipei as well as Hertfordshire. She was a member of our 2024 Summer County Cup ladies team who won the title for a 5th consecutive year.
