Two Local Heroes Win Awards For Outstanding Achievement

Hertfordshire LTA is delighted to announce Angie Gunn of Cassiobury Tennis Club has been named as winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award and Graham Fish from Leverstock Green Tennis Club has been named as Coach Of The Year in the East Region Aegon British Tennis Awards.

Both Angie and Graham have given many years of service to the game in Hertfordshire.

They had previously been awarded Hertfordshire County Winners and were put forward to a regional judging panel, who decided to give this further award.

Angie, winner of the Outstanding Achievement Award said: “I am over the moon, it is wonderful that with the help of parents, fellow coaches and support of Cassiobury Tennis Club I have enabled so many to play and enjoy their tennis.  The club website shows all events running including a charity event on 9th October open to non-members www.cassioburytennis.com

Trevor Adamson, President of Herts LTA added: “It is an honour for Herts to have 2 regional winners in the first year of the Aegon British Tennis Awards. Their contribution towards local tennis in Herts has been outstanding and the award is fully deserved. We wish Angie and Graham every luck as they now go forward to be judged by a national panel for the title of national award winner.

The awards are a joint initiative between The Lawn Tennis Asociation (LTA), the Tennis Foundation, partner Aegon and 40 local/national tennis associations, including Herts LTA. The Awards reward and champion the people who deliver tennis in communities across Great Britain.

The regional winners are:

  • Volunteer Award – Malcolm Sedgwick, Thorpe Bay Tennis Club
  • Young Volunteer Award – Evie Page, Hylands CASC
  • Coach Award – Graham Fish, Leverstock Green Tennis Club
  • Club Award – Cambridge LTC
  • Community Award – Park Tennis CIC
  • Disability programme award – Riverside LTC
  • Education Award – Charters School
  • Outstanding Achievement – Angie Gunn, Cassiobury LTC

The winners now go through to a national judging panel with winners to be invited to a national ceremony to be held in London in June 2016.
